This privacy policy covers Outcast, an app made by Crunchy Bagel Pty Ltd. Outcast is a podcast player for Apple Watch, with a companion app for iPhone.
The short version
- There's no account to create, and Outcast doesn't ask for your name, email address or location.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- The only data collected about how the app runs is crash reports, which aren't linked to you.
- To work, Outcast fetches podcast feeds and artwork, mostly through our own server. That's explained below.
What stays on your devices
Your podcasts, downloaded episodes, playback progress, playlist, settings and search history are stored on your Apple Watch and iPhone. The two sync directly with each other using Apple's Watch connection. They aren't sent to us or to iCloud.
Podcast feeds and our server
To show a podcast's episodes, Outcast downloads its feed. By default it does this through the Outcast feed server, which fetches the feed for you and sends back a compact list of episodes. That's faster and uses less battery and data on your watch. Our server receives the feed's address and the version of Outcast you're using. Information about podcasts is stored on our server to make the app faster.
Podcast artwork is also resized by our server, so it receives the feed's address and the artwork's address when your watch or iPhone needs an image.
You can turn the feed server off: in Settings, under Podcast Server, choose Connect directly to podcast URL. Outcast then fetches feeds straight from each podcast's host. Artwork still comes through our server.
If you add a private feed that needs a username and password, Outcast saves them as part of the feed's address. That address, including the username and password, is sent to our server when Outcast fetches the feed or its artwork. If you'd rather it wasn't, don't add private feeds to Outcast.
Episodes
Episodes download or stream straight from each podcast's host, not through our server. As with any download, the podcast's host can see your IP address and that the episode was requested. Their own privacy policies apply.
Search and top charts
When you search for podcasts or browse top charts and genres, Outcast asks Apple's iTunes Search API. Apple receives your search words, the country you've chosen in Outcast and whether to include explicit podcasts. Apple's privacy policy applies to these requests. Search words aren't sent to our server.
Crash reports
If Outcast crashes, it sends a crash report to Sentry, the service we use to find and fix bugs. A report includes the device model, the operating system and app version, and technical details of what the app was doing when it crashed. It isn't linked to your identity, and we use it only to fix problems.
Tips
Tips are in-app purchases handled by Apple. We don't see your payment details or your Apple Account.
Location
Outcast doesn't collect the location of your devices.
If you email us, we use your email address and what you send only to reply to you.
Do third parties see your information?
Only as described above: Apple for search and charts, Sentry for crash reports, and podcast hosts for the feeds and episodes you choose. We don't sell or share your information with anyone else, except:
- as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process;
- when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
- if Crunchy Bagel is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets. You'll be notified by a prominent notice on this website of any change in ownership or uses of this information, and of any choices you may have.
Your choices
You can stop Outcast using the feed server in Settings, as above. Deleting the app from your Apple Watch and iPhone removes everything it stored on them.

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version at this address (https://outcast.app/privacy/), with the date it was last updated.
